Sexually Transmitted Diseases

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that sexually transmitted disease cases are at an all-time high.

The number of reported cases of STDs in 2016:

1.59 million cases of chlamydia - 4.7% higher than 2015

486, 518 cases of gonorrhea - 18.5% higher than 2015

27,814 cases of syphilis - 17.6% higher than 2015.


The CDC recommends the following steps for patients to protect their sexual health:

  • Get treated

  • Get retested - its common to get some STDs more than once
  • Communicate - with your sexual partner and your healthcare provider.
